Summary
This article presents an analytical/computer model to predict the performance of a brazed aluminum evaporator operating under dehumidifying conditions. This evaporator is composed of a multipan extended flat aluminium tube, linked by a lowered finned array. The programme was used to design an R404A evaporator, for which a prototype was built and tested. The programme over-predicted the evaporator capacity by 8%. The over-prediction is believed to be due to flow mal-distribution in the branch tubes.
