Summary

After having demonstrated thanks to a simple model its validity in energy terms, the behaviour of a new two-phase secondary refrigerant is analysed. It is stabilized paraffin slurry, made up of particles of polymer paraffin gel (75% paraffin) in suspension in water. A test bench was constructed. It made it possible to obtain local convection transfer coefficients in a rectangular channel. The results demonstrate that the exchange coefficients are clearly above those obtained with a single-phase fluid. Correlations showing the local or overall Nusselt number, according to the Reynolds number are proposed. The study of pressure loss demonstrates a behaviour similar to that of water with a slight rise in pressure loss when the two-phase secondary refrigerant is crystallized.
