Thermal gas generators for temperatures from 100 K to 150 deg C.
Générateurs thermiques de gaz pour les températures de 100 K à 150 deg C.
Author(s) : BOISSIN J. L.
Summary
Much equipment, such as space simulation test facilities, cryopumps and cryostats must be cooled or heated using a forced flow of pressurised gas at controllable temperature, with capacities ranging from 100 watts up to more than 100 kilowatts. That can be advantageously achieved using forced flow of pressurized nitrogen or helium gas passing through a liquid-nitrogen-cooled heat exchanger and an electrical heater. The process is based on a closed-loop operating at constant density. The article presents the basic principles of gas thermal generators and the technology of their components, with three recent devices for space simulation and cryostat cooling applications.
