Summary
Industrial waste heat can be used as driving energy for ammonia-water absorption cycles to produce low-temperature refrigeration effects. However, the lowest evaporating temperatures of one-stage systems are limited by both waste heat and cooling medium entering temperatures. This paper demonstrates that two-stage ammonia-water absorption thermally-driven cycles can produce cold brine at -10°C with waste heat at 95°C and cooling water at 30°C. With a refrigeration efficiency of 33.6%, such systems may contribute to improve the competitiveness of industrial plants by reducing primary energy consumption.
