Summary

THE AUTHOR LIMITS HIS REMARKS TO AMMONIA/WATER ABSORPTION SYSTEMS. HE FIRST DESCRIBES THE BASIC PROCESS AND TWO ADDITIONAL RECTIFICATION BOOSTS THAT CAN BE ADDED TO INCREASE EFFICIENCY. FROM THERE FURTHER IMPROVEMENTS ARE DESCRIBED, NOTABLY AN ECONOMIC BALANCE BETWEEN SOLUTION AND REFRIGERANT CIRCULATION AND SOLUTION CONCENTRATION DIFFERENCE, BOTH OF WHICH SHOW SAVINGS IN REDUCTION. ALSO THE INCLUSION OF A COMPRESSOR EITHER FOR UPGRADING ABSORPTION PRESSURE OR OPERATING IN PARALLEL WITH THE ABSORPTION SYSTEM. THE ADVANTAGE OF 2-STAGE DESORPTION IN UTILIZATION OF LOW GRADE HEAT IS DESCRIBED AND ALSO THE STORAGE OF SOLUTION AND REFRIGERANT TO GIVE CONTINUOUS REFRIGERATION FROM AN INTERMITTANT HEAT SOURCE. DEVELOPMENTS IN ABSORBER AND DESORBER DESIGN ARE SHOWN, PARTICULARLY DESORBERS USING DIFFERENT HEATING MEDIA. THE PAPER ENDS WITH A NOTE ON APPLICATIONS FOR WHICH ABSORPTION REFRIGERATION IS PRACTICALLY AND ECONOMICALLY SUITABLE. D.W.H.
