Summary

THE PAPER PRESENTS A SAMPLE EXERGY ANALYSIS FOR A HEAT PUMP SYSTEM AND OUTLINES WHERE THERMODYNAMIC IMPROVEMENTS ARE POSSIBLE. EXAMPLES ARE GIVEN OF ECONOMIC CONDITIONS IN DIFFERENT COUNTRIES. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT THE SYSTEM IS ALREADY ADVANTAGEOUS FOR MANY HEATING PURPOSES THE WORLD OVER. BUT FURTHER IMPROVEMENT IN PERFORMANCE IS REQUIRED FOR THE HEAT PUMP TO BECOME UNIVERSALLY ACCEPTED AS THE STANDARD METHOD OF HEATING EVERYWHERE.
