Thermoelectric cooling at very low temperatures.
Author(s) : KAPITULNIK A.
Type of article: Article
Summary
The author presents a theoretical analysis of a thermoelectric cooler that can operate below liquid-helium temperatures. Using a metal close to its metal-insulator transition, he shows that the figure of merit for such a thermoelectric cooler improves with decreasing temperature. With a proper choice of materials, such a cooler can be used in arbitrarily low temperatures and possibly replace devices such as a dilution refrigerator.
