THREE-DIMENSIONAL CALCULATION OF SOIL FREEZING USING CONCENTRIC PIPES.

Author(s) : THORBERGSEN E., NONINO C.

Summary

THE AUTHORS DESCRIBE A MODELLING PROCEDURE FOR A FREEZING SYSTEM WITH CONCENTRIC PIPES. FLOWTHROUGH THE INTERNAL PIPE RETURNS THROUGH THE EXTERNAL PIPE. THE FINITE ELEMENT METHOD WAS USED FOR THE CALCULATION OF HEAT FLOW IN THE SOIL AND THE FINITE DIFFERENCE METHOD FOR THE HEAT EXCHANGE IN PIPES. TWO EXAMPLES ARE GIVEN SHOWING THE POTENTIALITIES OF THIS HYBRID METHOD. A STUDY OF THE EFFECT OF GENERATORS ON A SINGLE CONCENTRIC PIPE IS ALSO DESCRIBED.
