Summary

THE TRANSIENT RESPONSE OF A LONG SOLID CYLINDER TO A TIME-DEPENDENT SURFACE TEMPERATURE CAN BE ACCURATELY AND ECONOMICALLY DETERMINED OVER LONG PERIODS OF TIME BY THE RESPONSE-COEFFICIENT METHOD. IN THE PAPER, THE RESPONSE COEFFICIENTS NEEDED TO OBTAIN THE VARIATION OF THE SURFACE HEAT FLOW WITH TIME ARE PRESENTED IN A GRAPHICAL FORM, AND AN ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLE OF A STEEL CYLINDER IS DISCUSSED.
