Summary

Production of room- and packaged-air-conditioning units is growing rapidly in South-East Asia outside Japan, so that Japan is now a net importer. The Chinese industry and market are growing very rapidly towards 4 million units per year. The USA market has revived in 1993 and 1994. Japanese demand and production have fallen to 6 million in 1993 and fewer in 1994. Air-conditioner business in Europe is unchanged. The general use of R22 continues but alternatives are under evaluation. A.R.T.
