Two mathematical models of the falling film absorption in vertical tubes.

Author(s) : GARCIA-RIVERA E., CASTRO J., FARNOS J., et al.

Summary

Two mathematical models for the simulation of water vapour absorption in vertical liquid films are presented in this work, the first one is a semi-empirical model based on Navier Stokes equations together with energy and mass species simplified under the boundary layer hypotheses, the coupled equations are solved by means of finite difference method in a step by step procedure. On the other hand, a simple analytical model is developed based on the solution of three ordinary differential equations to calculate axial solution concentration and temperature distribution in the falling film. This model uses empirical information for heat and mass transfer coefficients. The two models are validated by comparing numerical results with experimental data of water-cooled vertical absorbers.
