Two-phase flow characteristics of a corrugated channel.

Author(s) : WINKELMANN D., THONON B., AURACHER H., et al.

Summary

This paper deals with two-phase air-water downflow in the corrugated channels commonly found in plate and frame heat exchangers. The flow channel consists of a transparent plastic plate to allow observation of the two-phase flow pattern and a regular steel plate. The Lockhart-Martinelli concept of the two-phase multiplier is used for pressure drop data reduction and the relationship between the multiplier and Lockhart-Martinelli parameter is correlated using a Chisholm-type equation. The void fraction is expressed as a function of the two phase multiplier and linked to the geometry dependence of the Chisholm correlation parameter. Furthermore a preliminary flow regime chart is proposed.
