Underground ventilation plants.

Ventilazione di opere in sottosuolo.

Author(s) : BARBETTA C.

Summary

The report takes into consideration the design aspects pertaining to the ventilation of tunnels intended for transportation, i.e. road, rail and underground tunnels, either during digging and operating phases. The dilution of pollutants from diesel engines, heat removal from electrical motors as well as the control of fumes generated by the use of explosives are key factors when dimensioning ventilation systems. Furthermore, tunnels have different requirements according to their final use. Consequently, so does the related design involved. After evaluating the conditions inside the tunnels, the report deals with the issue related to the impact of polluted air, which is exhausted from the tunnel environment, on the external environment. Some accounts are also provided on dispersion at tunnel portals and from the exhaust stacks of ventilation stations.
