Summary

THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN PLATINUM RESISTANCE AND THERMISTOR THERMOMETERS ARE ANALYSED. THE LACK OF LINEARITY OF THE LATTER IS NOT CONSIDERED TO BE DETRIMENTAL AND THEIR HIGH RESISTANCE CHANGE PER DEGREE DOES NOT REQUIRE LEAD COMPENSATION. DRIFT IN ACCURACY WITH TIME IS DISCUSSED AND HIGH QUALITY THERMISTORS ARE SAID TO BE MORE COST EFFECTIVE THAN PLATINUM THERMOMETERS. SOME DIFFERENT TYPES OF THERMISTOR CURRENTLY AVAILABLE ARE DESCRIBED AND GUIDELINES ARE ALSO GIVEN FOR SELECTION AND INSTALLATION OF THESE DEVICES. G.R.S.
