Summary
This Convention was adopted in May 1992 and signed a month later at the Rio de Janeiro summit by 155 countries. It had been negociated over the past year and a half by an intergovernmental body set up by the United Nations; this body has also been responsible for organizing the Berlin conference of March 1995. The Convention includes 26 articles, including: research and systematic observation; education, training and public awareness; and a subsidiary body for scientific and technological advice.
