Summary

The use of two-phase secondary refrigerants generated by a primary closed refrigeration circuit and transported towards the places of use is a promising solution for the development of refrigeration systems with a reduced impact on the environment. Solid fluid secondary refrigerants are known for their higher energy efficiency compared with single-phase fluids, due to the additional latent heat of melting of the solid phase. By using a new experimental device, hydrate-ice mixtures are shown to offer a dissociation enthalpy higher than that of ice and so can be used in a wide range of temperatures for refrigeration and air conditioning applications.
