Use of inertance in orifice pulse tube refrigerators.

Summary

The authors show that the phase shift between velocity and pressure can be shifted to the more efficient Stirling values by adding an "inertance" in series with the orifice. The word "inertance" is an acoustics term connoting both inertia and inductance, because it is due to inertial effects of moving gas and is the acoustic analog of electrical inductance. Use of an inertance is significantly beneficial only when the gross cooling power is sufficiently large.
