Summary

The article aims at giving the results of the application of propane in a centralized air conditioning unit, replacing R22. It also discusses advantages and disadvantages of propane utilization. The propane properties ressemble to those of R22. The utilization of propane has firstly been investigated by testing a centralized air conditioning unit of 8 kilowatts. Then, the compressor has been replaced by an equivalent-efficiency compressor with an 18% increased displacement; and the unit has been charged with propane. This paper is a translation of an article of the "International CFC and Halon alternatives Conference, Baltimore December 1991", mentionned in the Bulletin (abstract n. 92-0518).
