Summary

The paper deals with the use of the experimental particle image velocimetry technique to measure air velocity fields close to two small helicoid fans of different design. The experimental results show that the ventilation is higher in the periphery of the fans than in the axis, where a swirling area exists and where the air velocities are much lower. They also show that the presence of a fairing around one of the two fans channels the airflow at the output.
