Summary

Between April 93 and April 94, the development of French national refrigerating plants was affected by a very strong reduction (-35%) in the yearly meat intake (from 507,000 down to 330,000 tons), related to the ending of an exceptional storage period supported by the European Community. This reduction was partly offset by some increase of lesser value (offals, various foodstuff, retail quick-frozen food and ice cream). As a conclusion, a general review of the future of the French national refrigerating plants is necessary. Y.G.
