Summary

THE PAPER PRESENTS THE MAIN REASONS WHICH HAVE INDUCED THE SONATRACH GL1.Z PLANT TO CONSIDER, AS FAR AS OVERCOMING THE MAIN BOTTLENECK -WHICH IS VAPOUR -IS CONCERNED, THE POSSIBLE UTILIZATION OF GAS TURBINES INSTEAD OF STEAM TURBINES, SINCE A STEAM DEFICIT HAS BEEN OBSERVED DURING PLANT OPERATION. THIS OPTION WAS PROPOSED AS WAS THE ADDITION OF FURTHER STEAM CAPACITY. THE POSSIBILITIES OFFERED BY BOTH OPTIONS AS WELL AS THE MAIN ADVANTAGES AND DRAWBACKS ARE PRESENTED IN THIS PAPER.
