Summary

The VIP (Vacuum Insulation Panel) is so efficient at insulating that it may be one of the effective ways to reduce the energy consumption of a refrigerator. Furthermore, it is considered that the VIP is friendly and useful for the environmental issues. The VIP described in the study consists of inorganic glass fibers without a binder that were encapsulated at low pressure in an envelope using polymer laminated film with low gas permeability and high flexibility. In particular, the VIP showed much higher reliability in acceleration life test, which is considered mainly due to characteristics of film with super barrier property. For the developed film, properties such as heat sealing strength were compared with those of the major world-top-level films and the results showed that the tested film was better than those ones.
