Summary

Describes the use of a simple user-friendly CAD software to estimate the cooling load profile of an energy-efficient institutional building as a case study. At the same time its air conditioning load pattern was measured and found to be in good agreement with the predicted values. Notes parametric studies carried out to determine the contribution of the various features incorporated in the building. States the results show that by using such a simple tool it is possible to identify the modifications which contribute to appreciable energy and demand reductions and to gauge their economic viability. States that such CAD tools are suitable not only for analysing new constructions at the design stage but also for retrofitting existing buildings.
