Summary

THE AUTHOR ILLUSTRATES THE BAD CONTROL CHARACTERISTICS WHEN CONSTANT SPEED PUMPS DELIVER THROUGH A SYSTEM IN WHICH LOAD CONTROL IS BY 2-PORT THROTTLING VALVESAND WITH A BYPASS FROM CHILLER OUTLET TO PUMP INLET CONTROLLED BY A DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE VALVE. THIS SYSTEM INHERENTLY LEADS TO LACK OF STABLE CONTROL RANGE. TWO ALTERNATIVE SYSTEMS ARE SHOWN AND EXPLAINED, THE PREFERRED SYSTEM HAVING PRIMARY/SECONDARY PUMPING AND A BYPASS CONTROL AT THE FAR END OF THE MAINS. D.W.H.
