Summary
Sustainability is a prerequisite of every activity including refrigeration, which accounts for an important share of the electrical energy global consumption. The direct environmental impact of refrigerants eventually released and their influence on the energy efficiency of the refrigeration systems are pushing towards the adoption of refrigerants with low GWP, without potential chemical effect on the environment and with thermodynamic characteristics favorable to the high energy efficiency of the systems. From these points of view, the HCs refrigerants are considered the optimum solution for integral refrigeration appliances (retailer cabinets, merchandisers, professional, ULT, dispensers).
Energy saving solutions are addressed by regulations (Ecodesign - Labeling) and long-term policy (EU Green Deal) as well as by growing request of the end users. The equation: green refrigerants + energy saving solutions = maximum environmental sustainability is the one that better represents the actions on the refrigeration field.
On refrigeration appliances, the maximization of this equation can be reached by adopting innovative key components, like high efficiency HCs variable speed compressors.
This paper intends to present the characteristics of the high efficiency Embraco HCs variable speed compressors (VCC) with their new Smart Control and the results of case studies on some typical commercial refrigeration appliances, evidencing the energy saving that they can provide and the consequent upgrading of the Eco-design/Labeling Class.
Similar results are the base of the growing trend of the use of VCC HCs solutions on commercial appliances, in order to meet and anticipate EU regulation targets and contribute to an environmental sustainability optimization of the refrigeration sector.
