Summary

This thesis deals with variable-speed heat pumps including scroll compressors and inverters. It focuses on the characteristics of the inverter and the hermetic scroll compressor at various load conditions and speeds. The main losses and leakage mechanisms in the compressor are described using detailed models, which can be transferred easily to different compressor sizes due to their dimensionless parameters. Furthermore the specific changes in the compressor, occurring with liquid injection (wet compression process) are explained in detail.
