Summary
To meet the needs for better indoor air quality, the authors developed vertical ducted fan coil units to be combined with outdoor heat pump units. The units are designed so that all piping and duct connections can be made at the top of the unit. One of the unique features is that the unit has an exhaust fan coil section built in. The supplementary coil can recover heat from exhaust air, improving the refrigeration cycle efficiency. This will result in increased cooling capacity, improved heating COP and reduced discharge air temperature drop during the defrost cycle. Another feature is the extremely low noise level, which is achieved by passing return and fresh air through the coils and high-efficiency filter section.
