Viscosity for mixtures of HFCs and pentaerythritol esters.

Author(s) : WAHLSTRÖM Å., VAMLING L.

Summary

Pentaerythritol esters are suggested as likely alternatives for HFC compressor oils in heat pumps and refrigeration plants. The viscosities of mixtures of HFC-134a and HFC-125 in pentaerythritol tetrapentanoate and in pentaerythritol tetra-2-ethylhexanoate have been measured in the normal range of temperature and concentration with uncertainties of less than 4 and 2% respectively. The results are compared with a new simple predictive model. For mixtures of HFC with mass fractions of around 20% the model can predict viscosities with an uncertainty of less than 25% with the accuracy increasing for lower mass fractions.
