Summary

THE USE OF ICED WATER PERMITS COLDER PRIMARY INLET AIR WITH LOWER MASS FLOWS. INCREASED CARE MUST BE TAKEN TO ENSURE THAT THE COLD INLET JETS DO NOT < WATERFALL > AND CAUSE DISCOMFORT. A PRACTICAL TEST METHOD HAS BEEN DEVISED, IN WHICH A FINE FIBRE SCREEN IS PLACED IN THE AIR STREAM, AND THE FILAMENT TEMPERATURES MEASURED BY INFRARED THERMAL IMAGING, TO SHOW THE DIRECTION AND DIFFUSION OF INLET AIR JETS. THIS WORK IS CONCURRENTLY BEING MODELLED, USING THE ARCHIMEDES BOUYANCY NUMBER. DIAGRAMS AND TEST DATA ARE SHOWN. A.R.T.
