Welded and totally accessible advanced plate heat exchanger: the choice for integration of compact exchanger.

Summary

Significant technological advances in non-tubular heat exchangers have been implemented in Europe, and yet many of these technologies have not obtained the same acceptance in US industries that traditionally use shell-and-tube exchangers. Today, approximately half the heat exchangers sold worldwide are of the shell-and-tube type and this technology has regressed on European markets. The compact technology is being further developed with the technique of welded or soldered plates. For a sample overall information, non-tubular exchangers offer several common and functional advantages shared by all manufacturers: lower hold-up volume, modular design, compact size, lower maintenance cost, closer temperature approach, and operating experience shows less fouling.
