WET-BULB TEMPERATURE AND METABOLIC RATE LIMITS FOR ACCLIMATIZED MEN.

Author(s) : SCHUTTE P. C.

Summary

THE STUDY IS AN ASSESSMENT OF LIMITING WET-BULB TEMPERATURES AT VARIOUS METABOLIC RATES FOR FORMALLY ACCLIMATIZED WO THE FORMULATION OF THE HEAT STRESS LIMITS WAS BASED ON THE CRITERION THAT A HEAT EXPOSED INDIVIDUAL SHOULD EXPERIENCE A NEGLIGIBLE RISK (LESS THAN ONE-IN-A-MILLION) OF DEVELOPING HYPERTHERMIA: RECTAL TEMPERATURE OF 313 K (40 DEG C). EXPERIMENTAL FINDINGS INDICATE THAT LIMITING WET-BULB TEMPERATURES ASSOCIATED WITH LOW, MODERATE AND HIGH METABOLIC RATES WERE 306, 303.4 AND 301.2 K (33, 30.4 AND 28.2 DEG C), RESPECTIVELY.
