What is LNG's future in Europe?
Quel avenir pour le GNL en Europe ?
Author(s) : BANCOURT P.
Summary
It is clear that in the medium term, increasing European needs will be met for the most part by onshore pipelines; however there is also no doubt that in the long term, one is going to tap increasingly distant sources, for which LNG is a viable transmission option. The countries of the Middle East (Qatar, Yemen, Oman, Iran, etc.), which have the largest gas reserves in the world after those of the former Soviet Union, may enable diversification of European gas supply by providing alternative sources, particularly Russian gas.
