24 European countries offer financial support for industrial heat pumps
According to an EHPA report, nearly all European countries offer financial subsidies or support for companies to invest in industrial heat pumps.
According to the European Heat Pump Association (EHPA), heating accounts for over 60% of industrial energy consumption [1]. Increasing the use of renewable energy sources through industrial heat pumps offers a promising solution to reduce carbon emissions in the EU.
Most process industries generate a large quantity of waste heat, which is a by-product of industrial processes. A significant amount of this waste heat is available at temperatures below 100°C. In various industrial sectors, including agro-food, beverage, chemical, and paper industries, high-temperature heat pumps (HTHPs) are an excellent option to exploit the significant energy potential of this waste heat, while significantly improving energy efficiency and reducing the carbon footprint [2].
Unfortunately, cost is one of the main obstacles in the widespread adoption of heat pumps in the industrial sector. In a recent report, EHPA surveyed 24 countries – including Norway, Switzerland and the UK – revealing that financial support is available in various forms: grants, loans, or tax rebates [1].
For detailed information on subsidies available in each country, please refer to the EHPA report available here.
