European heat pump market in 2016

According to the 2017 European Heat Pump Association (EHPA) report, the sales of heat pumps grew by 12% in Europe in 2016 for the fourth consecutive year, with 999 682 units sold. Assuming a life expectancy of approx. 20 years, this brings the European heat pump stock to almost 9.5 million units. It is worth noting that 88% of the European market volume was sold in only ten countries. The five countries who lead the market in volume are:

• France (with 220,000 units sold)
  
• Italy (181,000 units)
• Sweden (101,000 units)
• Spain (89,000 units)
• Germany (80,000 units)
