France: refrigerant demand and emissions data
According to the Refrigerant Emissions Inventory – Year 2010 published by Mines ParisTech/Armines/ERIE at the request of French Environment and Energy Management Agency (ADEME), total refrigerant demand was 10 224 tonnes in 2010, including 80% HFCs (mainly R-134a and R-404A), 15% HCFCs (almost exclusively HCFC-22), 4% ammonia and CO2.

Refrigeration demand for new installations and retrofits only was 4639 tonnes, including 95% HFCs (in descending order of importance: R-134a, R-404A, R-410A, R-417A, R-407C), 4% ammonia (197 tonnes, mainly for industrial refrigeration) and less than 1% CO2 (15 tonnes, mainly for commercial refrigeration).
Distribution of total refrigerant demand was the following: domestic refrigeration: 25%; industrial refrigeration: 23%; chillers: 20%; mobile air conditioning: 18%; air conditioning: 8%; refrigerated transport: 5%; heat pumps: 1%.
Total emissions of refrigerants were 8100 tonnes (down about 20% from 2009). Mobile air conditioning (37%) and commercial refrigeration (23%) represent 60% of total emissions.
The total refrigerant bank was 56 690 tonnes, including 74% HFCs and 16% HCFCs (down by 20% from 2009). About 1550 tonnes of refrigerants, mainly HCFCs, were recovered.
