French heat pump market situation
The total market showed an increase of sales in 2014 with a little over 192 967 units sold. This is a rise of 27% compared to 2013.
In 2014, the situation is better for the heat pump sector, although the economic context remains difficult.
This recovery is due to the new building sector. Almost 40% of new houses are designed with a heat pump for heating and even 50% with a heat pump for hot water generation.
The total market showed an increase of sales in 2014 with a little over 192 967 units sold. This is a rise of 27% compared to 2013.
After years of decline or stagnation since 2009, the sales of air/water heat pumps have recovered growth in 2014.
Unfortunately, it is not the case for air/air heat pumps and for geothermal heat pumps.
Further, the sector of sanitary hot water heat pumps continues to increase with high speed.
Air/water heat pumps: This market segment experienced an increase of 47%, and reached 51 601 units.
This market segment progressed a lot in the segment of “<10 kW” heat pumps, especially bi-bloc ones, mainly installed in new houses.
Ground source heat pumps (ca 4.5% of the market of hydronic heat pumps): with 2373 units sold in 2014, this market segment dropped again by 40%.
Sanitary hot water heat pumps: The market segment for SHW heat pumps showed again a high increase of 58% reaching 72 539 sales. This growth occurred due to the construction of new houses with RES requirement and the incentive rate of tax credit.
Air/air heat pumps: With almost 47 643 units for heating, this market segment rose by 0.9% in comparison to last year.
In 2014, the house owners continued to push back or give up their investments in the real estate and consequently, those dedicated to their equipment of heating, deferring it on purchases considered to be priority.
Despite the economic context the French Government voted an increase of the tax credit rate (up to 30%), but this was not sufficient to support the investment in existing houses.
