Innovative transcritical CO2 ice rink installation
In Gimo, Sweden, a transcritical CO2 unit was installed to provide cooling for a new ice rink.
In Gimo, Sweden, a transcritical CO2 unit was installed to provide cooling for a new ice rink. This unit, from the Mistral model system supplied by Green & Cool, has options providing high/medium/low temperature and swept volume as well as heat recovery for heating and hot water services.
The excess heat from the heat recovery is transferred to deep drilled wells for geothermal energy storage. Transcritical CO2 system with heat recovery has been theoretically and experimentally proven to be more energy efficient with better COP than typical cascade and single transcritical systems.
