Madagascar joins global effort against climate change as 174th country to ratify the Kigali Amendment
In August 2026, Madagascar ratified the Kigali Amendment which will enter into force in November 2026.
On August 10, 2026, Madagascar ratified the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol. The Amendment shall enter into force for Madagascar on 8 November 2026.
As a party to Group 1 of Article 5 of the Kigali Amendment, Madagascar is required to freeze HFC production starting on 2024 and reduce its HFC consumption by 80% by 2045, compared to its average HFC consumption from 2020 to 2022. Madagascar is also required to reduce its HCFC consumption by 65% compared to its baseline average consumption in 2009 and 2010.
