Mauritania joins global effort against climate change as 170th country to ratify the Kigali Amendment
This November, Mauritania ratified the Kigali Amendment which will enter into force in February 2026.
On November 11, 2025, Mauritania ratified the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol. The Amendment shall enter into force for Mauritania on 9 February 2026.
As a party to Group 1 of Article 5 of the Kigali Amendment, Mauritania is required to freeze HFC production starting on 2024 and reduce its HFC consumption by 80% by 2045, compared to its average HFC consumption from 2020 to 2022. Mauritania is also required to reduce its HCFC consumption by 65% compared to its baseline average consumption in 2009 and 2010.
