New course on magnetic refrigeration!

The IIR has just published a new course entitled “Magnetic refrigeration” on its website, in the “Courses and training” section.

Prepared by Souheila Mellari, from Mentouri University in Constantine, Algeria, this course presents the basic notions relating to this technology, which is based on the physical property of certain magnetic materials whose intrinsic temperature rises when they are subjected to a magnetic field; conversely, demagnetisation leads to cooling. This phenomenon, known as the magnetocaloric effect, was discovered by the German physicist Emil Warburg in 1881.

This course is freely available and is the latest to be published in this popular section, which now includes 43 courses prepared by experts from the IIR or other organisations or universities in all areas of refrigeration.
