New IIR Informatory Note on Containment of Refrigerants

Currently available for IIR members only, the 24th IIR Informatory Note “Containment of Refrigerants within Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Systems” is out.

Currently available for IIR members only, the 24th IIR Informatory Note “Containment of Refrigerants within Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Systems” provides information on :

  • the impact of leakage,
  • the benefits of containment from environmental and economic views,
  • the places and ways leakage can be reduced,
  • legislation and initiatives developed to aid containment,
  • reference sources providing additional information.

Although the main focus is often on the environmental impact of refrigerant leakage, leakage also has a big impact on system reliability, efficiency and the economics of operation. The note, an update of the 14th Informatory Note on “Reduction of emissions of refrigerants and containment in systems”, presents a series of measures to be taken.

It was prepared by the IIR Working Party “Mitigation of Direct Emissions of Greenhouse Gases in Refrigeration” on behalf of the IIR Science and Technology Council.

IIR Informatory Notes

The IIR publishes Informatory Notes designed to meet the needs of decision-makers worldwide, on a regular basis. These notes summarize knowledge in key refrigeration-technology and refrigeration-application domains. Each note puts forward future priority developmental axes and provides IIR recommendations in this context.
