Participation of the IIR in the 31st Meeting of the Parties (MOP 31)

The 31st Meeting of the Parties (MOP 31) took place on November 4-8, 2019 in Italy at FAO headquarters. The Rome declaration on the reduction of food losses was signed.

The 31st Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer (MOP 31) took place on November 4-8, 2019 in Rome, Italy at FAO headquarters (U.N. Food and Agriculture Organisation).


Thanks to the participation of FAO, the Rome declaration has been adopted and has already been signed by 76 countries, claiming the reduction of food losses through a sustainable development of the cold chain. More information on the Rome declaration are available following this link.


Many side-events were organised, particularly with the participation of the IIR, about actions on the cold chain in Africa, South Asia and Europe.


A new joint publication with the IIR, UN Environment and Centro Studi Galileo was promoted. It is entitled Sustainable Cooling for a Healthy Future, and is available following this link.


A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between IIR and UN Environment for further cooperation in order to promote a more sustainable refrigeration.



The IIR, as an Intergovernmental Organisation, also delivered a statement during the high-level segment of the conference.
