Refrigeration appliances market in Brazil

Due to the increase in IPI (Tax on Industrialised Products) during 2013, and certainly in 2014, refrigeration appliances is expected to see a lower growth rate than expected.
On 1 February 2013 the Brazilian government began to gradually increase IPI (Tax on Industrialised Products) on fridges, fridge-freezers and freezers, from 5% to 7.5%. The category was supposed to return to its original tax of 15% on 1 July, but the government once again postponed the measure, increasing the IPI from 7.5% to 8.5% at the end of December.

Due to the increase in IPI during 2013, and certainly in 2014, refrigeration appliances is expected to see a lower growth rate over the forecast period than over the review period, increasing by a CAGR of 5% in volume terms.

In 2013 Whirlpool remained the leader in refrigeration appliances with a 44% volume share, thanks to the success and different positioning of its two brands, Brastemp and Consul.
