Rome declaration: actions already underway!
Following the Rome declaration signed by 76 countries on the need of a sustainable cold chain for food and after signing a new Memorandum of Understanding between UNEP and the IIR in November 2019, a series of actions were undertaken.
Following the Rome declaration signed by 76 countries on the need of a sustainable cold chain for food and after signing a new Memorandum of Understanding between UNEP and the IIR in November 2019, a series of actions were undertaken:
- Talks are being held with developing countries which are not currently involved in our Intergovernmental Organisation;
- the Cold Chain Briefs, five joint IIR-UNEP documents published in English in 2018, are being translated into French and Spanish and will soon be available on our website free of charge;
- a new Informatory Note on “The role of refrigeration in worldwide nutrition” will be published in February for all our members;
- several workshops will be organised with our United Nations partners (UNIDO, UNEP, FAO…) during the next IIR Conference on Sustainability and the Cold Chain in Nantes (France) on April 15-17, 2020. Become an IIR member and register to the conference at a much lower rate!
- last but not least, the IIR co-organised with the French Association of Refrigeration, other French professional organisations and the French Ministry of Agriculture the « Refrigeration wishes » in Paris on January 7, 2020, dedicated to Refrigeration for food : 2020 must be a new year of investments in the cold chain : Happy new year!
