The European Heat Pump Association (EHPA) – IIR partner in economic data – published the market trends related to the European heat pump market in 2018. They reveal a market growth of 12% compared to 2017, confirming the strength of this sector: over the past four years, the European heat pump market has experienced a double-digit growth. At this rate, a doubling of the European heat pump market by 2024 is expected.

France is still the leader of this market with 275,000 heat pumps sold ahead Italy (200,000), Spain (120,000), Sweden (108,000), Norway (101,000), Germany (99,000), Finland (64,000) and Denmark (50,000). The total heat pumps sold in 2018 amounted to about 1.3 million. Data for 3 countries were still missing.

EHPA considers that the 11.8 million units installed across Europe in 2018 produced 128 TWh of renewable energy. They avoided 32,98 Mt of greenhouse gas emissions. They saved 164 TWh of final energy and 75.7 TWh of primary energy.

Finally heat pumps sold in 2018 contributed to 68,228 job creations.
