Your invitation: United Nations Food Systems Summit 2021

The UN has invited the Director General of the IIR to present key data from two of its Informatory Notes during the Food Systems Summit 2021 to take place on September 20.

On September 20, 2021, the United Nations (UN) will host an online Food Systems Summit which will aim to demonstrate how internationally ratified agreements such as the Montreal Protocol, the Kigali Amendment and the Rome Declaration can contribute to the scaling up of technological and policy solutions for sustainable cold chains.

 

Organised under the theme “Sustainable cold chains and the Rome Declaration: delivering efficient ozone and climate-friendly cold chains to ensure nutritious and healthy food for all”, the meeting will put a spotlight on the critical role of cold chains in providing food safety and security, preventing food loss and waste, reducing global warming, and preventing the depletion of the ozone layer.

 

At this occasion, the Director General of the IIR, Mr Didier Coulomb, will participate as a speaker in session 1 of the dialogue on “Establishing the baseline on cold chains: what is the current situation, why it is important to address the cold chain” which will provide an overview of the current challenges on this matter.

In this context, Mr Coulomb will present key findings from the IIR Informatory Notes on “The carbon footprint of the cold chain” and on “The role of refrigeration in worldwide nutrition”; both referential publications on these issues.

As part of the United Nations Food Systems Summit, the United Nations has launched a call for nominations for sustainable cold chain technologies and approaches.
Selected proposals will be highlighted during a virtual exhibition to be featured at several international meetings.
