Résumé

Due to large-scale irrigation projects in the GAP Region of Turkey, there will be a need for conservation of surplus production of fruits and vegetables. The GAP targets are to increase summer vegetable production from 1.3 to 4.5 million tons and winter vegetable production from 28 to 608 thousand tons. Cold storage and the cold chain aim to maintain the quality of fruits and vegetables but prevent over maturation and damage due to pests and diseases. In order to prevent the negative effects of cold on fruits and vegetables, there is also a need for controlled atmosphere storage and modified atmosphere packaging. Infrastructure and cold chain investments are highly required in the GAP region.
