Extinction des incendies dans les chambres à basse température (méthode de noyage par CO2 ).

Résumé
There are two categories of fire hazards. fires originating on the outside of cold rooms themselves, within walls and partitions, door frames, cable trunking and heating resistances, and fires originating within the cold room, which is the subject of this paper. The authors have proposed a gas combustion inhibitor system to combat fires. Tests undertaken by the author's Company have shown preference for a gas "snuffing" system because of the compfications of using a water sprinkler system in cold rooms operating at sub-zero temperatures. The fire protection system of an existing store of 65000 m3 capacity operating at -30°C is described, together with tests on another 7500 m3 cold room equipped with a CO2 extinction system. The use of carbon dioxide may be questioned because of the risks of asphyxiation, but the author defends its use. The alarm network is a dual system electronic (ionic) detector operating at two sensing levels. an audible and optical a/arm which gives local protection coupled with an alarm system which is/inked with a central supervision station; and an a/arm which is transmitted to the central station and also connected to the local fire station. At both these control levels, the systems can be switched to automatic operation during the night and cold store personnel can monitor the system manually during working hours. Technical details are given of the various operations as regards detection, local a/arm functions, how the network is triggered off, teletransmission, testing and checking the system and the functions of the central supervisory station.
