Summary

1-O-METHYL-RAC-GLYCEROL, ALSO KNOWN AS 3-METHYOXY-1,2-PROPANEDIOL IS A LIPOPHILIC DERIVATIVE OF GLYCEROL, AND HAS BEEN STUDIED AS A NEW CRYOPROTECTIVE AGENT FOR MONONUCLEAR BLOOD CELLS, A WELL-ESTABLISHED EXPERIMENTAL MODEL IN CRYOPRESERVATION. THE CHEMICAL MODIFICATION OF THE GLYCEROL MOLECULE RESULTS IN IMPROVED CRYOBIOLOGICAL PROPERTIES, SUCH AS MEMBRANE PERMEABILITY, THUS ALLOWING EASIER HANDLING IN THE FREEZE/THAW PROCESS.
