IN 1985 THERE WERE ABOUT 380 HEAT PUMP SYSTEMS OPERATING IN SWEDEN, RESULTING FROM THE < SWEDISH STATE POWER BOARD'S PROJECT FOR SOLAR ENERGY AND HEAT PUMPS >. THE TERM < SOLAR ENERGY > INVOLVES THE TECHNICAL DOMAINS OF HEAT PUMPS, SOLAR ENERGY AND THERMAL STORAGE. IN A FIRST STAGE, HEAT PUMP TECHNOLOGY WAS CONSIDERED AS BEING CAPABLE OF PROVIDING POTENTIALLY HIGH AND QUICK SAVINGS IN SWEDISH OIL REQUIREMENTS.
